Restaurant Menu QR Codes That Can't Be Switched Off

Updated · 2 min read

For a menu QR code that lasts, put the menu on a page you control (your website, a shared drive, or a PDF on your own hosting) and make a static QR code to that link with QR Gratis. Avoid dynamic menu QR codes from subscription services: if the subscription stops, every printed table sticker stops too.

Steps

  1. Prepare the menu link. Upload the menu to your site or a file-sharing service and make sure it opens without logging in.
  2. Make a link QR code. On qrgratis.my.id/en/ choose "Link" and paste the menu address.
  3. Match your brand. Pick brand colours and add your logo. Use Card mode when placing it on a food photo.
  4. Download at a large size. Download SVG or a 2048 px PNG so it stays sharp in print.
  5. Test before printing in bulk. Print one, scan it with several phones from table distance, then print the rest.

Menu changed? Keep the QR code

Because the code points to your own link, you only update the menu file or page. The stickers on the tables stay the same.

Size and placement

  • Table stickers: at least 3 × 3 cm; 4–5 cm is more comfortable.
  • Door or counter posters: as a rule of thumb, make the code about a tenth of the scanning distance (scanned from 1 m → about 10 cm).
  • Avoid glossy surfaces that reflect lights, and add a short call to action: "Scan to see the menu".

Frequently asked questions

Do menu QR codes need a subscription?

No. A static code pointing at your own menu link is free forever and nobody else can switch it off.

Can I count how many times it was scanned?

Static codes do not count scans. If you need numbers, check the visit statistics of your own menu page.

What format is best for the print shop?

SVG, because it stays sharp at any size. If they want an image, use a 2048 or 4096 px PNG.
